Why the Brawl Is a Positive for the WBC

Thought of the day: Do you think that this brawl will have an effect of baseball ever coming back to the Olympics?

This, my friends is a video of the brawl that occurred earlier this afternoon between team Mexico and team Canada in the World Baseball Classic.

For those who do not understand what is happening, the pitcher for Mexico, (Leon) was told by his third baseman Luis Cruz to hit the Chris Robinson because Cruz was under the impression that team Canada as trying to "run up" the score even though Canada was up 9 to 3. And so in thinking that, he threw a couple pitches REALLY inside to the batter. But on the third pitch, Leon finally hit Robinson in the back and all hell broke loose.

Now, Canada eventually won this game, but not that it matters or anything, but I also believe that they won the fight. It can be a little hard to see after one view of the fight but keep watching it, and you'll notice that the sea of red hoodies attacking the green is incredibly overwhelming. I think it goes to say that, the Mexico learned it's lesson not to hit players on purpose but honestly; this was a great thing to happen for the World Baseball Classic.

For one thing, the WBC is televised on MLB Network. A channel that people don't even know exists. It is like channel 250 on DirectTV and Comcast and I don't even know if AT&T offers it. So not many people watch the games. The other thing is that not many people actually attend the games, unless they are from their respected countries. Luckily, for both teams the game was played in Arizona, so there was a large turnout of Mexican fans. The other thing is the lack of commercial advertisement done on the local channels such as ESPN, and Fox to promote the watching of the games. The brawl itself though, helped the WBC cause because of the level of intensity it created for other teams in the tournament.  Honestly, what shows more love for ones country than to fight over the game that they love? The other teams should be playing with the same fire in them, to show that they truly want to win the whole thing. I honestly believe that this brawl will propel viewers in to watching more of the games.

I'm not saying that every game should have a massive brawl in them, where players can get injured but this should show the other teams that they can have the same desire to win as team Mexico did today. I hope this  also creates more views of the games and actually enjoy them for the content. I mean sure Mexico got their asses beat two times in the same game but you cannot say that they didn't show heart. I cannot wait to watch the next game because of the intensity that I know will come from both teams.
